Hi in FMB001 i selected Odometer calculation source(TRIP) as "OBD" and he has few queries. I went through user manual and could not find any info on this. Please check and revert back soon.

  1. How is the odometer value computed?
  2. The odometer value was set to 0. It changed to 974 after reboot. Is this expected behavior?
  3. What would happen to the odometer value if the device was unplugged and plugged in again?
  4. What would happen to the initial odometer value if the device was switched?

Thank you for your question. Before the answering all questions, I would like to make short introduction about this functionality.

Virtual odometer is used to calculate traveled distance in FMB001 as a separate I/O element. When FMB001 detects movement, it starts counting distance using GNSS signal: every second it checks current location and calculates distance between current and previous point. It keeps adding these intervals until it is time to make a record, then FMB001 records its location and adds odometer value, which is equal to the sum of all distances, measured every second.

Answers to all questions listed below:

[Q] How is the odometer value computed?

[A] There are two types of distance calculation:

Total odometer - (AVL ID16): This parameter will constantly count the distance from entered value.

Trip odometer(AVL ID:199) has two possibilities to calculate trip distance:

1.Distance can be calculated between records - when the record is generated, odometer resets to zero and distance calculation

starts all over again.

2. Continuous odometer - this mode requires ignition (configured Ignition source) to be turned on.

Odometer counts all distance calculations from records and sums them to one distance.

Continuous odometer stops counting, when vehicle is at stop and ignition is turned off.

[Q] The odometer value was set to 0. It changed to 974 after reboot. Is this expected behavior?

[A] If we talking about total odometer in this situation then the value which was set in configurator or counted before, saves into devce even if you set 0. This solution can be used if you need to keep current total odometer value and update configuration for a few devices at the time. If you would like to set new lowest start value, then "1" should be entered.

[Q] What would happen to the odometer value if the device was unplugged and plugged in again?

[A] After you set start value in odometer, it will count kilometers until it will be unplugged, after device will be connected again it will continue counting from the last record when odometer value was sent.

[Q] What would happen to the initial odometer value if the device was switched?

[A] Odometer values remains in the device, so if you would like to switch old device to a new one it will start counting total odometer value from 0 (or certain value which can be configured).
