Trying to update the firmware doesn't work. Teltonika Configurator asks whether I really want to update it. Pressing Yes moves on to "Initializing target firmware flashing."

Then I hear the serial port is dropped and a "Could not reach device" error pops up. The Status LED of the device flashes rapidly and only a full hardware reset helps.

Exactly as I had it for the previous firmware updating. That time I finally managed to do that - after some 20 attempts.

Are there any tricks or requirements?

Right now I have firmware 01.00.13. That's the latest one according to the FMM640 firmware errata.

To use BLE beacon features, it would be vital to have a newer firmware.

Teltonika Configurator is 1.7.35, with firmware 01.02.14. (I've received it from our sales contact.)

Hello.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Device disconnecting from COM ports and LEDs flashing quickly is normal behavior during a Firmware update process. The device must not be disconnected from the power source or forced to restart during this process, this may affect the flash memory and corrupt the device. When the process is completed, the following message is prompted on Configurator: "Firmware Successfully written. Reconnecting".

Regarding the FMM640 firmware versions, as you mentioned, the last recommended is 01.00.13, which already has the BLE beacon feature added. This feature was added since FW version 00.03.74.T112.  Firmware Errata: https://wiki.teltonika-gps.com/view/FMM640_firmware_errata

A BLE firmware update is often required to work properly. Please refer to: https://wiki.teltonika-gps.com/view/FMC640_BLE_module_update

Kind regards.

Hi,

I may not have been clear. I let Teltonika Configurator to do whatever it wants, without interrupting. For example, I start the update, go to have lunch, back in 45 minutes. Though the device is blinking normally, it still has the old firmware version. (Just as one would expect after the "Update failed" message right before "Could not reach device" one.)
It's appr. 15 minutes in the fast blinking state before reverting to normal blinking and appearing as a COM: port.

I'm not updating the firmware just for fun. The BLE configuration features (like sending the beacon MAC address that is printed on the beacon instead of the internal 16-byte ID no one can tell) require a newer firmware.

A BLE firmware update could be also nice - if the update file to be uploaded was available anywhere.
